So, my first day of my first tournament, in the most southern country I have ever been to. It was also the first time I got to fly in an aircraft, so it was very exciting.
First thing that day: we went to el corte Ingles to shop, to get water and cookies to survive our 4 days of tennis. After that we went to the Madrid Arena. It was also kids day (actually the first 3 days were kids day), which wasn't very pleasant for my nerves. Yes they irritate me.lol
There were huge posters hanging in the hall, of Rafa, Tommy, Carlos, Nando and Feli, and we posed for pictures there. After that we went to see the training courts, where the Rochus brothers were playing and also Carlos Moya and Robby Ginepri. Feli was there too (I went ) and after some time, Fernando came on with his coach Pepo Clavet. He practised a bit with Tommy Robredo, and after some hours of Sjoukje called Pepo and asked him if Fernando could come and sign.
'We are the Nando chicas, look!' 'Chicas, no chicos' he said. lol!
Fernando came out and kept on signing things and taking pictures, while Sjoukje was pulling his sleeve and rubbing his neck and his hair
'Fernando, we made T-shirts for you!' He smiled and said 'Oh yeah?' and when he saw it, he went
'Fernando, why did you cut your hair?' He looked at us with a face like 'oh well, shit happens'
We took a picture with the four of us (Sjoukje, Gaby, Nando and myself) and he signed our flags. Afterwards we saw Thomas Johansson, Andy Roddick, Tommy Haas, Karol Beck and the Bryans train.
After that we walked around, and I was so impressed by Fernando, I couldn't say a word lol. At 4 pm, Feli played Grosjean. He seemed irritated by the ballgirls (models), who were crap. Oh my Carlos, they were awful. They couldn't hand the towels and balls properly and when there was a ball to catch, four of them ran to it at the same time. you can imagine how the players must hate that. And he didn't seem to like the cheering and everything. His hair was and his shirt was a bit diving suit like Dafne Fernandez was present at his match (a little weird)
On the training courts we saw Juan Carlos, GGL and Rafael Nadal. That poor guy was completely surrounded by hysterical kids and screaming people. I really felt sorry for him! A little bit later we went to cheer for Fernando vs. Paulo. We were on TV!!!! lol We were shouting 'VAMOS NANDO!' like mad chicas and waving our flags when Leigh text us that she saw us on Tv. lol
Tuesday was very exciting again. First of all we went to the training courts again. We saw Fernando and Carlos, and we let Fernando sign our Nando Chica T-Shirts With a pen, so it will go off easily I'm never going to wash that shirt again
When we got out of the group of kids, we went to look for court 2 (cibeles I think) and after about half an hour we finally found it. The current match was Olivier Rochus - Berdych. Oli lost first set 6-1 and it didn't look good. Berdych was a bit creepy but what struck me is that he has such a high voice for such a big guy!! Anyway, it was a historical moment: Sjoukje was actually cheering for Olivier. And it helped, cause he won I hung over the rail and asked for his autograph and when I said 'félicitations' (that's about all the French I know, and I bet it's wrong too ) and I was all excited when he looked me in the eye and said 'merci'. He has such lovely blue eyes!!!
After Ferrer-Calleri, which ended about 6pm, and Andy Roddick and Tommy Robredo started practising on centre court. Tommy was constantly talking and talking while his coach sat there waiting. When he was playing with Andy, he fooled around. When he hit a ball into the net he threw his racket in the air (playfully) or when he made a good point he started shouting 'VAMOS!!!!'. After a while Andy started imitating him lol. But we were thrown out of the Arena for the night session so we went away to get something to eat.
In the hallway upstairs we noticed a long queue, and it turned out Carlos Moya was giving an autograph session. We got in line of course. It went kind of quickly because you could bring only one thing with you. OMC I never thought he was so sexy. Especially up close. He's got something about him that makes you go He signed our flags and because next day was Sjoukje's birthday, she asked for a picture too. I had to make it because Gaby was sent away already. I hope the pic turned out well!! And then he gave her 2 kisses. When we got out we were like hysterical bunnies jumping up and down all excited, and Sjoukje started crying because she was so moved. And the best thing is: all that with a camera pointed at us.
Then we went to see JC Ferrero vs. Mirnyi. Juan Carlos lost in straight sets. Leigh text us that we were on tv ~again~. And afterwards Fernando played The Other Nando, being Fernando Gonzalez. We cheered and we screamed and we shouted, but in vain... But it was a great match. Fernando's little sister is so cute! She noticed us (like everyone in Madrid did lol lol)
So, Wednesday came, and Sjoukje's birthday too. We let her open her presents when we got back from the Tuesday night session Today we were more on the practice courts than in the Arena At the beginning of the day Tommy was practising with his coach and his friend, and he was again constantly talking. Then Feli came on, with Karlovic and Victor, a Spanish guy we knew. Feli was the practice ho of the day everyone practised with him that day. He was pissed off because of the noise all the children made (he had made them excited by hitting some balls over the net) and he started swearing. but he was completely comfortable when all the kids rushed over to Rafael, who had come in to practise. He came over to sign (he signed my flag!!!!! ) but he was gone soon.
Fernando and David Ferrer came to train as well and we went to see their doubles match after Rafa's game. The little cute sister was there too shouting: 'VAMOS FER! .... y david' David signed our flag and Fernando signed our little spanish wurms I don't want to know what he thought when he saw us wanting autographs on those tiny things!!
In the Arena Roddick was playing Karlovic. We got in when Karlovic had won the second set after Andy had a matchpoint (yeah Sjoukje said she heard Andy shout 'F*CK' after he lost the set) and eventually Karlovic won. So we lost a great deal of time, because we wanted to see Carlos Moya - Tommy Robredo, and to go to the players' party. Tommy played well and won in 3.
So we packed and ran away to the hotel to freshen up. It was 1.30 am when we got to the disco attached to the players' hotel. Although we had VIP tickets, we couldn't get in immediately, so we had to stand in the queue. But then a shining star named Fernando looked down on us, cause he showed his face at the door. Sjoukje shouted 'FERNANDOOO!!' and because she is so tall, Fernando noticed her. He talked to the security and they let us in!
Sjoukje Gaby Freya
He so cute, no???? Sjoukje grabbed him and gave him 2 kisses It was really full inside, everyone was bumping into everyone. We saw a glimpse of Gaudio and Spadea, and also of Feli. At a certain moment a Spanish guy started dancing with me, I was like but it was fun. And a lot of people came to us and started talking (though that was kind of impossible with the noisy music), one girl said to me that she had seen us with our flags in the Arena... Yeah, that was us
It was 4.30 am when we got back to the hotel.
thursday, our final day at the Masters... What a good time we had... What a great first tourny it had been for me. Anyway, report of Day Four.
There wasn't much we wanted to see on Thursday. Fernando only played doubles the next day (and lost), so we went to the training courts and stood there watching for a long time (we saw Fernando Gonzalez with his coach, who had a very irritating high voice, Sjoukje went crazy when she heard him and also Mario Ancic of whom I took 3 pics.) Because we were sort of bored we went to see David play Puerta. After Puerta had won the first set, Gaby rushed off to the training courts to see Tommy. And right after she had left, she text sjoukje:
'NANDO!!!!'
We needn't see that again. We packed our flags and everything and left straight away. I don't think I have ever run that fast Fernando and Pepo had to laugh when they saw us coming. We had to bother Fernando again after his training, and then we watched Tommy a bit. But then something was announced and we heard the name Fernando Verdasco. Sjoukje and me ran upstairs, and yes, Fernando was giving an autograph session. We had our pics taken again and when Sjoukje asked him 'Are we driving you mad?' he just said 'no'. Aaaaah he's so sweet!!! And when I thanked him again for letting us in at the party he said: 'you're welcome'
After that little we went to see Tommy - Rafa. It was over with quickly, Tommy made far too many unforced errors. Fernando hadn't got rid of us yet, he sat in the boxes and we were checking him out again as usual I guess he noticed us and our cameras again
After that match we left the Arena. It has been a great 4 days of tennis, a lovely first introduction to the world of live tennis. |
